@ # 28.... I loved Lafayette Lever. I remember trying to put together all-time starting 5's from the NCAA Field-------and I couldn't believe that ASU backcourt! And Lister was the 5. Unbelievable they didn't go farther.

@ #26... Jason, I don't know how he did it in THAT kind of shape. His shooting % suffered, but he was still incredibly effective as long as he was out there. In 1991, Boston was 46-14 with him and 10-12 without him. I mean, I gotta lay on a hardwood floor for my back sometimes------so I can carry out the trash. Bird was doing it so he could continue getting triple-doubles in the NBA. **From the 'Cowbell' skit on SNL: 'I put my pants on one leg at a time, just like you----only after my pants are on......I make GOLD records'--Bruce Dickenson (as played by Christopher Walken) Bird is Dickinson. Anyone surprised to see the name of my Sun Devil Fat Lever so high on the triple double lists? Except for me, of course. He is truly one of the NBA's least appreciated players. Not only is he high on the TD list he is ranked #17 all time in steals (sixth all time in triple doubles)And all this in 8 and one half NBA seasons (23,800 minutes)

At ASU he played with Byron Scott, who is far better known. And yet can you say that Scott actually had a better career? Now get this -- he also played with NBA journeyman center Alton Lister (#32 in blocks with 1473); and with all that talent ASU never got out of the second round of the tournament

GordonX - Yes, and remember....Jordan scored all those triple doubles only AFTER switching to the point guard position at the near end of the season.That is when he went on to record a triple double in 10 of 11 games. It was an experiment of sorts that the Bulls never repeated due to the inclusion of the triangle offense in the following seasons.

Amazing to think how many triple doubles he would have been able to pull off had he stayed at the point for the entire following season.

To put things into perspective, here are roughly the numbers Jordan averaged while at point guard position, (all at the end of the season too mind you)

30.7ppg (50.5% from the field)
11 apg
9.4 rpg
2.52 spg

Sean - I LOVED watching old Larry Bird. He gave so much to that team with his rebounding, outletting (they were a fastbreak team that relied on a guy who couldn't run to get them started), and his high-post passing in the half-court. Who else could play point forward when he could barely bend to dribble? If Bird stayed functionally healthy in the playoffs in '91, I think Boston beats Detroit and gives the Bulls a serious fight in the conference finals.

It took Artis DOUBLE the time--- THREE Xs as often as anybody else--- to get up the floor in transition.

Larry Bird's 10 triple-doubles in 75 games in 1990 sticks out because he was not THAT Larry Bird anymore. He was 1 year removed from missing 76 games due to having surgery on both heels 6 games into the '88-89 season and he would only play in 105 games TOTAL in his final 2 seasons (1991 & 1992). In addition to his feet and his elbow and his fingers, he was dealing with a back that would make him lay on his stomach in front of the bench and scorer's table when he wasn't on the floor. How he was ringing up 10 trip/doubs in that state against the best of the best is incredible.
