Looks like TV got what I was thinking of...

I went back to find why I thought there was evidence against it and it came from Kevin Pelton.

He concludes with this: "There are reasons to pick against Portland in the postseason ..., but a roster untested in the playoffs should not be one of them."

I guess my "more statistical evidence" claim means one article by a numbers guy. :)

But, I would love to see you guys do a study on how much of a factor playoff experience matters! I love the work you guys are doing here. Keep it up!

But I do recall Kevin Pelton's finding that age is positively correlated with general team success, and you have to think that experience plays at least some role in championship teams -- look at the list of recent champs, and you've got some serious veteran teams. I do think it's an overrated factor when put alongside offensive and defensive efficiency, though.

Either way, it's definitely a study we'll have to do here in the coming week(s), because we have all the data needed. It's just a matter of running the correlations at this point. So thanks for the idea, and we'll let you know what the numbers say.

At least, I am not aware of any studies that show experience is a factor in determining playoff success.
