Comments on: What Changed For the Suns and Spurs in 2010? http://www.basketball-reference.com/blog/?p=5866 NBA & ABA Basketball Statistics & History Mon, 21 Nov 2011 20:56:04 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.6 By: khandor http://www.basketball-reference.com/blog/?p=5866&cpage=1#comment-17368 Tue, 18 May 2010 21:12:52 +0000 http://www.basketball-reference.com/blog/?p=5866#comment-17368 What has changed with the Spurs?

1. When the Spurs went with the 5-Man Unit of Parker + Ginobili + Jefferson + McDyess + Duncan they were better than the Suns. Unfortunately for San Antonio, Gregg Popovich did not play those 5 players together nearly enough to overcome the disadvantages San Antonio faced whenever they had other combinations on the floor.

2. The Spurs no longer have a credible back-up Center to Tim Duncan.

3. Keith Bogans is not the equivalent of Bruce Bowen.

4. Letting a veteran like Michael Finley go ... even though he was just a shell of his former self ... while keeping far less talented role players like Roger Mason and Malik Hairston, eventually cost the Spurs dearly against the likes of Jason Richardson, Grant Hill, Leandro Barbosa and Jared Dudley.

The Suns had the better eff diff so they were/are the better team. And they won the series (I picked PHX in 7). No upset. The only surprise is the sweep. The real playoff surprise is actually somewhere else: the Lebronettes.

Phx - SA
111 - 102
110 - 102
110 - 96
107 - 101

109.5-100.25 avg

SA strayed as much as 4.25 from their average.
Phx stayed within 2.5 Pts of theirs.

In 3 of 4 games, the score after 3 quarters was quite a bit closer.

San Antonio has not been the same team since Bruce Bowen lost his mojo and then retired.

Now how the hell will Phoenix keep this going w/ Kobe and Artest on the wing positions and the long arms of the LA bigs clogging up all those open lanes to the rim? Cause I'm tired of LA making the finals. We deserve to see Dwight and Amare go head to head for 7 games.
