Have you ever gone through the NBA drafts and tried to figure out who the best players of a draft were? They're rarely the 1st players picked...

I remember, during the '01 or '02 All-Star Break, there was an NBA roundtable discussion on various topics. David Stern was one of the panelists. Miles was in the audience. I'm a little hazy on the details, but a question was asked about whether the teams/league did enough to support the high school players coming into the league at age 18/19. Stern said something about how the teams definitely did everything they could to ease these youngsters' transitions, and they weren't having any problems, "Isn't that right, Darius?" I recall Miles starting to reply that "Well, actually, it is pretty hard in certain ways --" and Stern cut him off with a laugh, "Oh Darius, you're doing just fine!" I wish I could recall the exchange a little better, but Stern really pissed me off and I felt bad for Miles, who I thought showed some balls to admit on national TV that maybe things were a little overwhelming.

I'm glad you gave the shout-out to Paul here. I think he's pretty much been the 2nd best player in basketball since '08, and if it weren't for some shabby MVP voting that year (of course the media wanted Kobe to get the "lifetime achievement award" despite the fact that he has never been the best player in basketball in any SINGLE season) and LeBron James playing at other-worldly levels Paul would be working on his 3rd straight MVP right now.

I'm always fascinated by how pundit predictions pan out and all the twists and turns that lead to glory or ignominious lack of glory.

Gotta disagree on Wade having a shot at unseating LeBron. Sadly, Wade is already too old to have a chance at being better than LeBron. LeBron is currently the superior player and has more time to improve and more obvious areas where he can rather easily notch his game up.
