Layups: Blogger Q&A with Charles Barkley
Posted by Neil Paine on June 11, 2010
This week, I was invited back to participate in NBA.com's Blogger Q&A series again. The guest was Charles Barkley, an inner-circle Hall of Famer and one of my personal favorite players (and announcers) of all time, so I asked Charles to weigh in on the Kobe-Pau Finals MVP debate (which may have been a bit premature in retrospect, as the Celts drew even in the series last night). As always, thanks are in order to the NBA and YouCast Corp. for putting together this opportunity.

Neil - Where do the numbers (whichever you generally use WS, SPM, PER, belt size, whatever) rank Charles all-time among power forwards?

SPM says Barkley is #1 all-time, better than Duncan, better than Malone. WS/48 says he's second behind Duncan. Ditto PER. But because Charles had the misfortune of being in the same draft class as Michael Jordan, people don't really appreciate him as much as they should.

Nice. So if, for the sake of argument, we insist that Tim Duncan is a center, there's a reasonable amount evidence that Charles Barkley may in fact be the best PF in the history of the league? At least as on offensive player. I love math-letics!

Charles Barkley: Great player, funny guy, stupider than warm mud. When he starts talking society and politics, he sound as utterly ridiculous as I would look trying to play NBA basketball.

I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one.
