Most Dominant Playoff Tournament: Pool D, Round 1
Posted by Neil Paine on March 19, 2010
Since WhatIfSports doesn't have a "neutral court" option for the NBA, I decided to make each matchup a 2-3-2 best-of-7 series to lessen the impact of HCA (home teams win 60% of the time in any 1 game, but only 53.2% in a 7-game series). Here are the opening-round series from Pool D (click on series links for game-by-game box scores):

(* = Teams before 1952 are unavailable at WIS, so I used the '52 Lakers with as few MP as possible given to players who weren't on the '50 team.)

The idea here is great, but the actual results are bizarre. On what world would Ben Wallace be scoring that much against a young Bill Russell?

No way do the 82 Lakers hold Hakeem to a lower scoring avg than the 94 Knicks did; against a fast-paced team like LA, the 94 version of Dream would go for 30+ no doubt

I have to question the methods by which WhatIfSports compares and calculates these dream scenarios. Although I think that the website and the whole comparison thing is awesome, and I think its something we have all been waiting for, it has made some odd decisions. The choice to have nearly all if not everyone on the team play at least a bit is one Another is that it seems to simulate a very conservative outcome for certain players, such as Jordan, who were known for getting in the zone and suddenly ripping of 50 points.
