Posted by Neil Paine on November 4, 2009
Sporcle actually e-mailed us and let us know about this one... Can you name the NBA's top 5 players in Player Efficiency Rating (PER) for every season between 1970 and 2009?

164/200. Things get fuzzy prior to 84. Could be that I was 5 years old at the time . . . got everything after 83 though. Having the teams helps. Missed a lot of obvious candidates prior to 84, too.

197. Someone got 200? How is that possible?

I got 196. How on earth I forgot Oscar Robertson I'll never know.

192. I could not remember the name Spencer Haywood. All that came to me was Alton Lister for some reason.

Hmm, maybe you were thinking about how another Sonic crushed Lister's spirit:

165.
got everything after 79 except Mark Aguirre and Tracy McGrady [I forgot he played for the magic that long].
John Drew, wow - the only guy on the list that I never heard before.

If I could spell I would had a chance . . had to keep going to google to get the names spelled correctly . . .184 is respectable.
John Drew was a stud in my Statis-Pro Basketball game growing up. . .

Drew accounted for two of the four that I missed. Chet Walker and Bob Kauffman (who?) were the others.

I got John Drew thanks to A) The Book of Basketball and B) the rookie debut stat Jennings matched (leading his team in points, rebounds and assists).
Could not remember Mark Aguirre as the other Mavs forward, then Walker and Kaufman like Justin.

If you're wondering about John Drew, I just wrote a post about him...

I got Chet only because of the attention he received on this blog http://www.basketball-reference.com/blog/?p=2938 Now that is eduction!

This was one of the better ones. I got 186, and can't believe I missed dave bing and lanier. My mind was going blank looking at all those DET entries towards the end.

Got 'em all with 4:38 to spare.

Also Dave Bing, for whatever reason.

185. What a great quiz this was! Somehow I forgot Alonzo Mourning and Bernard King. Terrell Brandon was a real surprise. I did get John Drew, though.
