Heh, was this a trial run of your PDF-to-database conversion? Any target date of completion for all NBA history? =)

  2. Jared Ras Says:

    I'm surprised Larry Bird's 47-point triple-double was only #17.

Still, great to see more individual box scores added to the site!

  3. Jason J Says:

Killer. Look at Rookie Charles Oakley getting 35 and 26 in a loss... He's like the Kevin Love of 1986...Except he played defense.

  4. ElGee Says:

Neil - nice to see these additions. A tip of the cap to Oakley's 35-26-7 and Drexler's 41-15.

What are the chances of seeing playoff box scores added for before 1991?

  5. AYC Says:

Well, Bird had 8 turnovers in that game. Michael Ray Richardson is the one that stands out to me: 38/11/11 with 9 steals!? And this turned out to be his last season....

  6. Math2 Says:

    My favorite NBA season. Thanks!!!!!!!!

  7. Matt Says:

The season that Jordan missed with the injury, or I'm sure he would have been on there a few times.

  8. Mel_Farr Says:

Ok so at #2 we have world b. free, i looked him up and noticed that in 1979 he averaged 29ppg and didn't make the all star team [!]

  9. Brian Says:

Anyone note Michael Ray Richardson (#24 on JHGS)getting to within one steal of a quadruple double; which to my knowledge has never been recorded in the annals of the NBA

  10. Cort Says:

oakley didnt shoot or pass nearly as well as kevin love though...

  11. Cort Says:

lloyd free (he wasnt world b yet) did make 2nd team all-nba in the post-season awards for 1978-79 after scoring 28.8 ppg for the san diego clippers, who were 39-43. but he didnt deserve it ahead of dennis johnson, a much better all-around player who led seattle to the title that year. or other better guards like david thompson and doug collins either. he came over to SD from the 76ers to play for gene shue, who previously coached him in philly on their 1977 finals runner-up team.

  12. Sean Says:

Oak Tree is definitely one of the top 20 rebounders in basketball history. You should take a look at the man's numbers in college.

  13. Sean Says:

Richardson's game was triple overtime. He received a lifetime ban from the NBA for violating its drug policies for like the second or third time.

Alvin Robertson posted a quadruple double in this season.

  14. Cort Says:

oakley was a fine rebounder...not sure if he is top 20 though. maybe among forwards only. his college stats were compiled against less than great competition...

  15. Sean Says:

yes, but his college numbers are insane. he was .01 rebounds per game away from leading the league in 1987-88 and that's because Michael Cage grabbed 30 in the last game of the season. Oakley's rebounding is terrific on a super-slow paced Knicks team under Pat Riley and always playing with Ewing in the middle. He'd make my top 20.

  16. Cort Says:

oakley 14 rpg in college, 9.5 in NBA; bird for instance averaged 10 rpg in his career while playing with better rebounders on his own team than oakley (parish, mchale) and averaged over 13 rpg in college against better competition. does bird make your top 20? there have to be several centers and C-Fs with better or as good rebounding numbers than oakley off the top of my head - russell, wilt, moses, cowens, unseld, bellamy, lucas, reed, thurmond, hayes, sikma, robinson, duncan.

  17. Sean Says:

I want to thank the gods of this site for expanding to the 1985-86 season. Keep expanding! You gotta get all of the 80s in ASAP!

  18. Sean Says:

How about the Bird 3/18/86 game? 43 pts in 29 minutes. That minute total is the lowest (by 5 minutes!) on the list and he added 8 rebs, 3 asst & 3 stls with just 1 TO.

And that's only 11th. Imagine if Larry Legend was interested in compiling stats!

  19. Cort Says:

yea i agree. larry legend was the best. could have scored much more had he not been so unselfish. best passing forward ever, by far. and an underrated top-notch rebounder. larry sacrificed his offensive rebounding when mchale emerged in the double low post offense with parish to play on the perimeter mostly and be the guy who always got back vs. the fast break. but early in his career he was very tough on the offensive glass. check out the 1981 finals. 21 rebounds in game 1 i believe, including 2 big off rebounds in the final seconds before he made the winning lefty reverse.

  20. Dickie Dunn Says:

Aw...nice to see some boxes from the days when teams got up and down the court...some played D, most didn't, and teams dropped 100 without breaking a sweat. Love some of these sick lines from players...Mike Gminski dropping 41 and 22, Barkley one board and one dime short of a 20-20-10 game.

    These were the days...

  21. P Middy Says:

    THE GYLDE.

  22. Matt Says:

@9 4 players have recorded a quadruple double, including one that season.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_%28basketball%29#Quadruple-double

  23. Tmckelv Says:

    @9,

    4 quadruple doubles...

    1) Nate Thurmond, October 18, 1974, Chicago vs. Atlanta; 22 points, 14 rebounds, 13 assists, 12 blocks.[1]

    2) Alvin Robertson, February 18, 1986, San Antonio vs. Phoenix; 20 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists, 10 steals.[2]

    3) Hakeem Olajuwon, March 29, 1990, Houston vs. Milwaukee; 18 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists, 11 blocks.[3]

    4) David Robinson, February 17, 1994, San Antonio vs. Detroit; 34 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, 10 blocks.[4]

2 are Spurs. Only Robertson had 10 steals, the other 3 guys had 10+ blocks.

  24. Sean Says:

I believe in 1985 against Utah Larry Bird has something like 32 pts, 12 rebs, 10 assts & NINE steals... AFTER THE 3RD QUARTER.

He then decided to sit out the entire 4th Quarter. He would have been only the 2nd recorded quadruple doubler after Thurmond------and the ONLY forward to do it... STILL.

He was asked 'why?' he didn't go for the quadruple double after the game-----and he simply replied that the were up 'by 30' and that he had done enough.

Image if Bird gave a darn about personal stats to the extent that SO many players do. He didn't care. But if he DID... and he inflated his own numbers more-----you gotta wonder where some people would have him rated relative to where they do currently.

  25. Sean Says:

    @16

When I look at rebounders, I always consider their role and how that might hinder or help them. Rodman never looked for the ball. He was positioning himself for a rebound the moment after his team crossed half court. Compare that to an Olajuwon who was the focal point of his team's offense. Had Olajuwon been told to simply get rebounds, there's no telling what he would have done in the mid-late 80s, early 90s. Bird was the primary weapon on offense. That hurts your offensive rebounding chances---especially if you shoot from the perimeter like he did, VS, say Moses Malone, who got a few extra rebounds 'playing catch with the rim' and getting his own misses inside (not that Moses wasn't a great rebounder). Oakley was pretty much a rebounder as a role player---not to the ridiculous extent that Rodman was, but that was his primary job more than scoring and/ or distributing.

  26. Sean Says:

    There it is:

On February 18, 1985, Bird registered a triple double (30 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists) and also had 9 steals in three quarters of play against the Utah Jazz. Bird sat out the fourth quarter, as the Celtics led 90-66 after the third quarter and won the game 110–94. When asked by reporters if he actually wanted to play in the 4th quarter to get the quadruple double, Bird said "What for? I already did enough damage to them."

  27. Cort Says:

sean,i totally agree with you about bird. easily could have had the quadruple double but he was about winning without personal aggrandizement. had he shot as much as jordan, iverson and others, his stats would have been even gaudier.

  28. Julius Says:

And what about Akeem (at that time he still spelled it that way) and Charles (2x) nearly posting 5 by 5? By that time no one had done it. Akeem recorded a 5-by-5 for the first time the following season...

  29. Julius Says:

...Although one could argue that Charles actually posted it on 4/11/1986 if accounting for TO.... or PF! Monstruous stats line that night!
